Reine des Violettes Millet-Malet, 1860.
The popularity of Reine des Violettes can almost be compared to a cult following.
Its main quality is the colour of the flowers, although the colour varies considerably depending on the season, planting site, soil and climate.
The flowers are usually deep purple-red, fading to violet lilac.
The reverse of the petals is silvery pink, creating a very beautiful contrast within the flower.
This is especially noticeable on the button eye in the centre of the flower.
Unfortunately, the flowers fade quickly and lose their appearance.
They appear in narrow clusters, on short stems, and are arranged in a way that is reminiscent of Portland roses.
The foliage is matte and unremarkable, the shoots almost smooth, without thorns.
