Rugelda

Rugelda Kordes, 1989.

Rugelda is one of the best yellow rugosa roses, very vigorous and attractive. The flowers open from red buds; they are lemon yellow with a reddish edge, fading to cream with pink, although the overall colour varies greatly depending on the weather. The petals are wavy and pompon-shaped. They appear in large clusters of 5–20 flowers, usually at the ends of the stems. The stems are very thorny and thick, and the young ones have a beautiful purple-red colour. The leaves are large, slightly wrinkled, and very glossy. The variety is quite disease resistant, reaching 2 m in hot climates, but responds well to pruning back to 150 cm in spring, which stimulates the formation of new flowering shoots.
