Robusta

Robusta Kordes, 1979.

Few park roses have such a vivid colour as Robusta: its bright flowers simply glow. The variety is also unusually tall and vigorous, and in Paris it is grown as a low climbing rose. The flowers are single, sometimes with a small tuft of stamens in the centre. The flowers open from elongated buds and appear in short clusters of 5–10. The shrub is very thorny – the shoots are so densely covered with long thorns that they cannot be handled without thick gloves. Large, bright green, wrinkled foliage provides a beautiful backdrop for the vivid flowers. It grows well in poor soils and is very winter hardy.
