Description

Kordes Germany, 1956

One of the early brown roses, Cafe, was bred by Cordes in 1956. The flowers are slightly quartered, reminiscent of centifolia, which is rare among brown roses and looks very attractive.

The colour of Cafe depends greatly on the weather and the season, but in the best conditions the variety blooms with large flowers in a true cafe au lait shade, always with a warm golden tint.

Depending on the climate and time of year, the flowers can sometimes be an incomparable copper-yellow colour.

Cafe is also one of the rare fragrant brown roses – the scent of rose oil suits the flower form very well.

Another unusual feature for a floribunda is that Cafe grows into a large shrub with large flowers (9-10 cm).

The foliage is matte and a pleasant bright green colour.

The buds are rounded.

The flowers are yellowish coffee-coloured, cup-shaped, large (9 cm), double (50-60 petals), fragrant, borne in clusters of 4-13.

The leaves are large, olive green.

The shrubs are medium-sized (60-70 cm), slightly spreading.

Blooming is abundant.

Winter hardy.
