Santana

Santana Tantau, 1985.

The glossy leaves and frost hardiness show that Santana is a kordesii hybrid. It has practically no fragrance. Even so, this is an excellent and floriferous variety. The flowers are semi-double and look good at every stage of flowering. They are richly coloured, glossy, blood red, rain resistant, and do not fade for a long time. They appear in small clusters (usually 3–7 flowers), not only in the upper part of the shrub but on all shoots from the bottom upwards. Santana has very healthy, resilient foliage and an upright habit. It blooms abundantly; the shrub is covered with flowers until the first frosts. It can be grown as a large shrub, but also looks excellent when planted against a support.
