Description

Flammentanz Kordes, 1955.

Flammentanz is a descendant of kordesii and Rosa rubiginosa, both of which Kordes used to develop his finest shrub roses. Wilhelm Kordes considered it his best red-flowered hybrid, but also criticised it because it blooms only once. The variety is very winter-hardy, which is why it is popular in Scandinavia, where because of the climate repeat flowering is of less importance than in countries where roses have a longer growing season. The flowers are about 8 cm across, deep red, borne in clusters of 3–7 on a stiff, thorny shrub. It grows into a spreading, informal shrub or a low climbing rose. The foliage is bright green, and the variety is very resilient.
