Description

Hydrangea paniculata Sandae Fraise

It was bred in the French nursery Pepinieres Renault, by one of the nursery’s founders, Jean Renault.

Sandy Fries is a compact hydrangea variety.

An excellent, abundantly flowering variety that forms an upright, very compact, dense and even shrub up to 1.5 m tall, which can be grown in small gardens.

Annual growth is 20-25 cm. The variety stands out for its lush, broad pyramidal flower heads up to 25 cm long.

It has a delicate and beautiful combination of different shades during flowering.

During flowering the flowers are white, then gradually turn pink, and in autumn they become bright pink, pale crimson, with lilac tones.

The shrub flowers from mid-July through September.

The leaves are arranged opposite, ovate, dense, dark green, rough, slightly pubescent above and more strongly so beneath.

The shoots are sparsely branched, firm, upright, brownish red, bending under the weight of the flowers and giving the plant a spherical shape.

Flowers on the current year’s shoots.

Suitable for planting in partially shaded and sunny locations.

The plant is moisture-loving and requires regular watering.

Increased frost resistance.

Silver medal at the Plantarium 2010 exhibition in Boskoop, the Netherlands.
