Description

A mid-early variety; the berries ripen in the second ten days of September. The berries are round, purple-red with a bluish bloom and exceptionally large (length 1.5 – 2.0 cm, diameter 1.5 – 2.0 cm, weight of a single berry 1.4 – 1.74 g). The berries keep well. The variety is productive, with an average yield of 2.5 kg/m2. The runners are sturdy and the upright shoots long. The leaves are light green and large. One of the finest varieties! American large-fruited cranberries need more warmth than our native cranberry species, so plant them in a sunny spot in the garden. In winter, when frost sets in without snow cover, it is advisable to cover the planting with leaves, spruce branches or dry sphagnum peat. Raised-bog sphagnum peat is the most suitable substrate for growing cranberries. The berries contain biologically active substances and nutrients and keep well thanks to the benzoic and salicylic acids they contain. They are used for candied fruit, preserves, jams, jellies, sauces, juice and other food products, and can also be frozen. The plants are ornamental both when in fruit and in spring, when the runners take on a pink colour.
